Welcome to Sichuan University
Sichuan University, established in 1896, is one of China’s oldest higher
education institutions. It began as the Sichuan Chinese and Western
School and evolved through various stages, merging with traditional
academies and becoming the National Sichuan University in 1931.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the university was
renamed Sichuan University and underwent significant reorganization in
the 1950s, leading to the creation of several new institutions.
In 1954, the Engineering Institute of Chengdu was established and later
renamed Chengdu University of Science and Technology. The West
China School of Medicine, founded by Christian missionaries, became
part of Sichuan University following a series of mergers.
Today, Sichuan University is the largest and most comprehensive
