Welcome to Qingdao University
Qingdao University, located in the historic city of Qingdao by the Yellow Sea and Fushan Mountain, has a rich history blending traditional culture
with modern advancements. It originated from the Qingdao Specialized Institute of Higher Learning in 1909, evolving through various names and
stages such as Qingdao Medical School and Qingdao Medical University. The university’s lineage also includes Private Qingdao University (1924),
which later became National Qingdao University and National Shandong University. In 1946, it merged with Qingdao Medical Specialized School to
form a medical school, eventually separating in 1956 to become Qingdao Medical School. Shandong University’s move to Ji’nan in 1958 prompted
Qingdao University’s reconstruction starting in 1985.
Qingdao University’s other components include Qingdao Textile Technical
School (1950), renamed Shandong Textile Engineering Institute in 1978,
and Qingdao Teachers Training College (1951), which became Qingdao
Teachers College in 1981. In 1993, Qingdao University was formed
through the merger of Qingdao University, Qingdao Medical College,
Shandong Textile Engineering College, and Qingdao Teachers College.
Today, Qingdao University stands as a comprehensive institution with
diverse disciplines in natural, humanistic, and social sciences. It is dedicated
